Blountsville was founded in 1816 as Bear Meat Cabin and sits in the Blountsville Valley of northern Blount County. It had 1,826 residents in the 2020 census, and U.S. Route 231 runs through town.^[1]

The post office opened in 1825 and the town incorporated in December 1827. It served as county seat until 1889.^[1]
