Atop Sand Mountain

Crossville sits atop Sand Mountain, a southern extension of the Cumberland Plateau, at about 1,132 feet.  The DeKalb County town counted 1,830 residents in 2020.[1]

James A. Copeland named it for its many crossroads.  The first business opened in 1888, cotton mills ran from 1903, and the town incorporated in December 1942.[1]
