A railroad town on I-65

Hartselle is the second largest city in Morgan County, 13 miles south of Decatur, and counted 15,455 residents in 2020.  The South and North Alabama Railroad brought it to life in 1869, and the city takes its name from railroad owner George Hartsell.[1]

A fire in 1916 destroyed most of the historic buildings, yet the Hartselle Downtown Commercial Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.[1]
