Henagar sits atop Sand Mountain at about 1,486 feet, with South Sauty Creek flowing through.  The 2020 census counted 2,292 residents.[1]

George Henegar settled the area around 1855, and a postal route misspelled the name.  The town incorporated in 1965.[1]
